How about chocolate or royal icing? I think that could work..

I would make it out of fondant with gumtex added to make it hard. You can let it dry over a flower former or any rounded object will do like a can??
Then you could paint it brown with dust to make it look like wood.

HTH

I did a bridging cake - take a look. Made a bridge out of fondant w/ a tiny bit 1/8th? of tylose added. Or you can make it way ahead w/ plain fondant and let it dry.

if you're adding gumtex or tylose, it will harden overnight. If straight fondant, I think you'll be ok by Friday. (It depends on the humidity where you live). I'd let it dry for a day on the form you're using, then take off and let dry on it's side to get the underneath to dry.

Per my Wilton class its 1tsp. for 12 oz. of fondant.
