If it is just for writting you can mix luster dust with piping gel. The recipe is here under the recipie section!

Or you could do your writing in royal icing and then paint it with luster and lemon extract or vodka.

Just make sure you get luster dust, available at cake specialty stores or online, not Wilton's sparkle dust at Michael's, etc. Not the same thing. Many hard lessons learned icon_smile.gif

I always colorflow my letters then gild them with gold lustre dust. In my pix you'll see a closeup of a monogram done that way. I love the look of it and it would work beautifully for a book. icon_smile.gif

Okay, so I went out and got my gold luster dust. I'm going to pipe the lettering for my book cake with royal icing and let dry. Do I then paint the letters with extract/vodka and then dip a brush in dust and paint? Or do I mix the dust and liquid and then paint on? I've (obviously) never done this before so I'm not sure what the proper technique is. Thanks everyone! icon_biggrin.gif

Mix the dust and alcohol together before you paint, add a little at a time until it will give you a good coat but is thin enough to paint.
