Out of the 3 major brands of cake mix (Duncan Hines, Betty Crocker, and Pillsbury), which brand is your favorite to use. Do you find that one brand is better then the other taste wise or decorating? Do you think one particular flavor tastes better then the same flavor from another brand?

I mostly use DH. It was what my grandma always used so I just went with it. I do like that most DH mixes make 5 to 6 cups of batter. When I have used Philsbury or BC they usually made 4-5 cups instead.

DH classic white is my standard, other DH flavors are good too, but I will use PB on occasion.

I'm a fan of Pillsbury ... I've tried the others and I find that Pillsbury doesn't fall or collapse after coming out of the oven as much as the others... it's all a personal preference really.

I just about always use Pilsbury mix, but I recently found DH on sale for .59 so I will be using it until my newly stocked cubbard runs out!

I usually use the dream whip recipe, and both DH and Pilsbury work well with it. The only flavor that I will use a certain brand is the Funfetti cake, and I will only use the pilsbury for that. I tried the DH brand once, and my family asked me what was wrong with the cake?

I like Betty Crocker for some and Pillsbury for others, esp. the white.

I used vanilla pudding in my pineapple up-side-down cake for the first time. I added it to the white mix, it was way to sweet for me and the family.

I need a addition that does not add a lot of sugar.

I prefer the DH cake mixes because they're on sale most often here. But Either BC or DH is good. Sometimes I need a particular flavor and one brand offers it the other not so... Don't have PB here, so I don't know about those.

Have a nice day

I use BC about 95% of the time. If I need a flavor that I can't get in BC, then I will look to DH. Never have used Pilsbury. Betty has never failed me, so I'm pretty devoted.

BC always domes so much that I have problems with it. I find that Pillsbury bakes so evenly that I rarely have to fix it. Never have problems with it falling or anything. DH falls apart every time I take it out of the pan.

I have all three brands and not partial to any of them. They all get the same results from my family and friends that eat the cakes. (I am fairly certain I could make a cake out of cardboard and my family would say it taste delicious so they don't hurt my feelings).

I was thinking of asking this same question because I was curious why people chose a certain brand. Most of the time I stick with PB. It is the one brand I can count on not to create problems for me LOL. BC gives me good results 50-75 percent of the time and DH turns out less than 50% of the time. I don't know what it is about DH, but the cakes almost always fall apart on me or sink or just plain don't taste good. There are certain flavors though that I stick to certain brands on.

For example, I love DH red velvet, it's the one DH that always turns out great for me. I like BC strawberry and cherry chip. Funfetti and butter recipe HAS to be PB. I never bought white cake until recently and it was PB and I did not like it, so I think I'll try DH white since people seem to rave about it.

All this being said, I've gotten better about preparing the batter and baking to the correct doneness in general so maybe PB was just more forgiving when I wasn't doing it right. PB also happens to be the cheapest when nothing is on sale, only 81 cents. I do get other brands when they're on sale.

BC is always perfect!
I've had problems with DH many, many times.
And Pillsbury has a "different" taste, imo.

I adore Pillsbury-have had customers actually notice something different about the cake when I've used Duncan Hines-I noticed it too but at first thought it was just me.

DH 99.9% of the time. BC doesn't have enough stability. Cake always crumbled or collapsed. switched to DH 12 years ago for home and never considered any others when I started decorating 6 years ago. I do use the PB for funfetti.

DH for sure! I love their Dark Choc Fudge and Classic Yellow and White. The Butter recipe hasn't been that great for me though. If in a pinch, I'll choose Pillsbury. BC has never worked well for me or tasted that great. DH always holds together well and I agree with Texassugar that it makes more batter.

I love DH, i have never had problems with the mixes and always get rave reviews about them. Everyone always wants to know what i do different to get it so moist....

I do use BC but ONLY for cherry chip. Everything else is DH or a scratch recipe.

I would say definitely do a taste test for yourself and others around you and see what works well for you.
