Would anyone be able to share with me any idea's for making windows that look like there's glass in them? I'm doing a cake for a college grand opening of a new campus 0and they want it to look just like their new building, and there's windows EVERYWHERE! Thanks so much in advance.

I'm not sure, but I would try piping gel. I've seen stained glass windows done with it.

You can use gelatin sheets, although they are clear, they generally have a design. for some applications it is perfect.

You can also use poured sugar candy. Some gingerbread house instructions have directions for the sugar.

Rice/wafer paper comes to mind or gelatin sheets. If it is cake, it won't be see thru as a gingerbread house. So, don't necessarily think it has to be clear. I used sticks of white gum for some of my gingerbread house windows in the past. You might need to try a few things. Fondant or chocolate would work.

You might do some searches for gingerbread house windows and look at all the possibilities, then do what is easiest and/or looks best.

A while back I saw one of the chefs on the Gingerbread Mansion Challenge, on the Food Channel, make clear "glass" windows out of poured sugar, in a silicone mold. And another time, I saw someone use gelatin sheets for window glass.

Good Luck! thumbs_up.gif

You've probably already moved on since this question was last posted but I ran across it while browsing. But I did just see some instructions on the internet that said you can use crushed Life-Savers for stained glass. Neat idea and pretty inexpensive too.

Use a frosting sheet, outline your window size in black or dark gray, lightly brush with light or sky blue, on top of window lightly brush with a gray or smoke color (to look like factory shading). Cut out, peel off and apply where you need your window.

Or you can melt Jolly Ranchers hard candy..there is a flavor that is clear white. But make sure it gets to the shape that you want. icon_smile.gif
