Their decorating stinks (too rushed), but the buttercream is light and not too sweet and the filling is a very light strawberry and the cake moist... I was soooooo not happy that I had to admit, that yes, this mass marketed cake is yummy! Plus, someone brought in Madeleins to church last week and they were PHENOMENAL... the guy said, he is a Madeleine snob and the best he's had in the US are from COSTCO!!! Cripes... a 14x20 cake was only $19.99 and it was filled... UGH... good thing it looked "ickey" or else I would wonder why any cake decorator was in business!

Yes, I too like Costco cakes. They are delicious and so cheap! I've found that the chocolate Rich's Bettercreame is very similar to the Costco chocolate filling - so I use that a lot now!! You're right about the decorating, though...

In fact, I remember being at Costco right at closing and someone wanted to have something written on a cake. Since it was closing, the bakery couldn't do it, but they provided the customer with a bag of icing and a plastic tip so they could write on the cake themselves! icon_surprised.gif

We had a Costco wedding cake, back in my pre-decorating days. We were on a budget, but nobody complained! I really like their cheesecake flavored filling.

Agreed. Costco's bakery turns out really good tasting stuff. If I have someone who wants a sheet cake and is on a budget, I recommend them to Costco. I can't match them on price. Here it's $16.99 for a 12x18. That's practically my cost!

I've never had a cake from Costco, but my wedding cake was from Walmart (a couple years ago, I didn't decorate then and we were short on money) and it too did taste good and fresh. Maybe we just got lucky icon_smile.gif
