Making An "african Savannah" Tree?

How the heck can I make one of these? You know, the kind that you typically see in pictures from the savannah in Africa. It's kind of wide and bushy at the top, roundish, and then a short trunk. I was thinking of tracing it in chocolate and then letting it dry and stand it up, but I've never done that. Any thoughts?
I just did some palm trees, well, I HOPE. Theoretically, it will work, but we'll see 
. Right now, they are drying upside down.

Is it the tree thats looks upside down ...like the lion king type...I remember them being every where in animal kingdom.....maybe you can use a paper towel core and ice the outside. and make the braches(roots) then when dried flip it...

Yesterday I made some bases to my palm trees and I was thinking that something like that MIGHT work, but I'm not sure it would hold up.
I took pretzel rods and dipped them in chocolate bark and dried them upside down with a big puddle to help them stand. That puddle will be what I use to attach leaves to make the palm trees...in THEORY!
I don't know that it could have as much of a span as I need for the savannah tree.
Does it have to be 3D? Or could it be a BCT? I keep thinking maybe you could do a BCT .. but I'm not sure if you're wanting a 3D effect
That might work, mouse. I went to look for more chocolate bark and couldn't find any. Hmmm. I had one package that I got on sale after the holidays. Does anything else have the same strength?
It doesn't have to be fully 3D, but it has to stand up. Everything else stands, so it would look odd with a flat tree. Thanks!
How about the chocolate relief method in the Whimsical Bakehouse book? I know they did some trees that looked very bonsai-ish. I'm thinking if you did that you would be able to get the look you want easily. It won't be 3D but it would stand up. Just a suggestion.

You could make it with the chocolate, like in the Whimsical Bakehouse, and make two, cut one in half and "glue" the half portions to the sides of the one completed portion with melted chocolate. This way the tree would be 3D and have some body and support to stand up. Clear as mud? Blessings, Shawn <><
