What Type Of Fill & Frost Goes Well With Strawberry Cake

I am making a mothers day cake for my MIL and she asked for a strawberry cake. I don't know what flavor of buttercream frosting and what filling goes well with strawberry!! I've always just used regular buttercream (butter/vanilla flavor) and covered with fondant! Any ideas?!?!

I think that fresh strawberry filling and cream cheese icing go great with strawberry cake.

Or banana cream filling and cream cheese icing ...

Or chocolate ganache filling and icing (think chocolate-covered strawberries) ...

Or lemon curd filling and lemon buttercream (think strawberry lemonade) ...

Or lime curd filling and lime buttercream (think strawberry limeade) ...


OK, now I'm hungry for strawberry cake ... icon_lol.gif

I just did a cake for my SIL, chocolate with cream cheese and marshmallow fluff filling and cut up strawberries to mix in. Very yummy, found the idea on this website. I just used Buttercream icing and did chocolate covered strawberries on top and on cake platter.

cakesbyjess had a great idea with the lemon curd filling and lemon buttercream frosting! I think that combo sounds awesome.

I love cream cheese frosting with strawberry cake. yum! You might even want to mix in some white chocolate in there somewhere icon_wink.gif

If it is going to be a warm day, I would think that the lemon or even the lime idea would be a good choice.

I love strawberry cake and I also use a chocolate ganache.
then decorate with chocolate covered strawberries
