Has anyone ever used freezer paper instead of parchment paper. I just thought I would ask because it's cheaper. Thanks a bunch

I use Freezer paper ALL the time, for rolling out the dough and temporarily freezing the dough to cut. The only time I use parchment is when I cut, bag and freeze for future use. (learned that lesson the hard way. No pun intended) and definelty muuuuuchh cheaper

hope it helps.

Edited to say "Welcome aboard" you'll soon be addicted, thanks to this wonderful source of information known as CC.

I use freezer paper to cover my cake boards. Is that what your talking about using it for? It's not the same as parchment paper so you wouldn't be able to bake with it.

Hi,
Not sure if you are referring to using freezer paper for general use or something else. I just recently purchased some and tried it for covering a cake board vs. foil. I just like the clean white appearance. I use freezer paper for covering boards and parchment to pipe royal icing onto and then wax paper for other general uses. icon_razz.gif

I use freezer paper to roll out fondant & cookie dough... it works beautifully! I don't use parchment for anything really. Some people swear by it for baking, but I haven't had a need for it yet... icon_biggrin.gif

No, it's not the same. Freezer paper is white. It is shiny on one side and papery on the other side. I use it for covering my cake boards.

For baking sugar cookies, I use parchment paper but reuse them a lot. After a few rounds in the oven, they turn a little yellow/brown but still work great.

Just a few weeks ago I used freezer paper to cover a board and I put the paper side up and the grease bled through, so if you're using it for that, be sure to put the plastic side up.

I did try it for rolling cookies, but for me it wasn't even close to parchment paper. It stuck to the dough, unlike parchment.

I never thought to use freezer paper.

Regarding the costs of parchment, I've bought parchment sheets off eBay, there are a few sellers, and it's a huge savings over buying it by the roll, even with having to pay shipping amounts.
