I am trying to come up with a method to make a cake in the shape of an apple (3D). I have the large and small Pampered Chef measuring bowls and I have heard you can use them to make the Barbie doll cakes. I figure I can carve an apple out of the bowl shape.

My question is, if I use the large measuring bowl (the size of apple I need) are there any special things I need to do while baking?

The bowl will hold 8 cups of batter, I will probably do about 6 though to keep from running it over in the oven. Do I need to reduce the heat to bake this? I'm concerned the center won't cook through and I don't have time to do test runs.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Sharon

I use them all the time. I just put a tinfoil rod down the center (tinfoil twisted into a pencil shape). I have never had a problem

I have used mine to bake cakes. But a word to the wise; it could not really do a doll cake. This is much smaller than it looks b/c it is so thick. You can see how big it is by looking in my pictures. It is the half round tent on top of the Jojo cake that is orange and red. Notice how flat the top is and how small it is. I didn't do anything special. Just kept my temp at 325 as usual

Oh and this is the large batter bowl; not the small; and I filled it up about 3/4 of the way; it is just really thick glass; so I thought it would be bigger than the wonder mold pan; but it's smaller

I have never had a problem; it always cooks through. Just give it time. don't stop baking until it is cooked through. If you have the cake tester; use it until it comes out clean; it isn't done. it may take an hour or less; just give it time. grease it really well with cake release; cakes do like to stick to these.

I bake in the large batter bowl a lot too, and when I use it for the doll cake, I set the doll on top a square base so there is plenty of room to push the doll down into. Works great!
