I made a cake today and noticed that my baking powder had a "best if used by" date of October 2005. Should I throw the cake away? Or is it still okay to eat do you think?

Thanks!

It's fine to eat. The only thing that would happen with expired baking powder is that it wouldn't rise, but if it did that it's totaly fine.

Nothing wrong with the cake, but it may not have risen as much as it could have with newer baking powder.

I write the date I buy the can, and then the date I open a can, on the lid using a sharpie marker. My rule of thumb is that if it's been open for more than 6 months, I chuck it (too cheap to have it ruin all of the other ingredients if it doesn't do its job). If it isn't opened, I'll give it up to 6 months past the expriation date and then if I open it, I'll only use it for 3 months or so.
