I also posted this in the "how do I?" forum: Has anyone ever substituted Chocobake for powered cocoa in a chocolate cake recipe? I normally use Hershey's Cocoa & their "perfectly chocolate cake" recipe, but I have this tub of chocobake that I want to experiment with. My search of the archives didn't produce any answers. You can use it in a cake batter, but not in icing, as it is pre-melted.

Look on the box to see if there is a conversion table from cocoa powder to Choco Bake.

On the tub the conversions are in pound increments, but I belive it's an equal exchange ( 1c chocobake for 1 c cocoa powder) but it also says that the chocobake will replace the shortening in the recipe. This is what scares me, I'm unsure if I am to delete the oil from the recipe if I use the chocobake.

That means that there is also oil in the Choco Bake, which keeps the chocolate at a pre-melted state. This is what I was afraid of.

Personally, I would not use this unless it was on a practice cake. I don't feel like going through all the work of figuring out how much fat it is displacing in a recipe.

I would save it for when I make a marble cake.

Thanks Theresa for answering me so quickly!--I too, didn't want to mess with figuring if the oil in the product replaces the recipe oil, so I went to nestle's website and found their recipe for Chocolate cake using Chocobake, so I will practice that recipe today and post my results

The recipe was a DISASTER icon_sad.gif --the sides rose faster than the middle, then the middle rose and FELL; I'm throwing out the rest of this Chocobake stuff , heading out the door now to go buy more Hershey's Cocoa Powder and going back to the Hershey's cake recipe

Don't throw it away just yet. There should be a toll-free number on the box. Call them and wage a complaint about the product. Nestle is very good with their customer service. They may send you a refund, or a coupon for another product.
