Okay, now that I have your attention!!!!! icon_evil.gificon_eek.gif
I have an odd order for 5 dozen Nut Horns ??? due next week. Several recipe sites have provided me with recipes but when I made them today ( a practice run), I thought they were strange. All these recipes had yeast in the dough so the finished cookie was like a little rolled up piece of not sweet BREAD ( with a really good, sweet, gooey, walnut filling.) DH likes them--13 year old daughter does not.
So, I was just wondering if anyone out there has made nut horns and can verify that this weirdness is correct.
Thank you

Try using a rugalah dough recipe, with a cream cheese base, instead. It is the same as the pecan tassie dough recipe on the Kraft website (see below).

Here in PA these are called kiffels, and are similar to Viennese kipfels in shape.

Theresa icon_smile.gif

4 oz. (1/2 of 8-oz. pkg.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
1 cup flour
1 egg

BEAT cream cheese and butter in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add flour; mix well. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour or until chilled.

PREHEAT oven to 350°F.

BAKE 15-20 min. or until lightly browned.

If you need more info, send me a PM.

Theresa,
You're FANTASTIC!!! Thank you!!! Right after I posted I was shaking my head and saying " who the heck is going to know THAT obscure cookie," much less have an answer for me!
Yes, rugalah dough sounds much tastier than this bready stuff. Easier too.
I've never heard of kiffels or kipfels 'till now (and I'm a former midwesterner!!), but I love learning something new!
I've eaten alot of rugalah (or rugelach ???) and I love the stuff so I'm glad for the opportunity to give it a try----thanks to you, Theresa!!!!
BTW, this client has also ordered 5 dozen Buckeyes! Another weird cookie, but my trial run on those went well.
Again, thanks for surprising me with such a great answer!
Nancy

Hey, you startled me-- and you type fast!!!!!
Yeah, the Buckeyes ARE very candy-like. Eating just one is kinda to much!
These cookies are going to a wedding in Ohio where everyone contributes to a big cookie/ dessert table. This is a new one on me!?! I hope the bride is getting a cake too!!

The doctor is in. That will be 5 cents, please!

I will also barter for cookies, cake, or buckeyes.

JODIE: I had never heard of this until last summer when one of my sisters good friends got married. They did the cookie table thing. Everyone bought cookies and that was in place of the cake. It is some sort of tradition. I wish my sister was home right now, I would call and ask her, but she has class tonight. I will call her tomorrow and find out the tradition behind it (if she remembers).
