Ok , here's a guess!
Do the sole and heel out of cake boards.
Bake two 8 inch square cakes.
(Wish I could do graphics like Doug!)
Cut one of the cakes in half- this wil be the FOOT part.
Cut the other half of that cake into halves again. Stack these cakes on one end of the FOOT- to begin building the leg part.
Take the remaining 8 inch cake and cut it into 1/4's , and continue to stack until you get the height needed (probably only need 2 of the 4).
Of course you will fill and dowel and put cake boards in as needed(every two layers of cake). Center dowel the thing too, and freeze it, then carve it to give it more shape.
Cover in fondant and it looks like maybe it was painted to give it that worn leather look. HTH.

Such grand ideas! icon_rolleyes.gif
It's always easy IN MY HEAD! It's the actual MAKING of the cake that is the hard part!
I never get to do the fun cakes- all my orders are plain old regular cakes, so I am baking vicariously through others! icon_lol.gif

GO CARYL!!!!! (and give the sketching a whirl -- bet you can do it just fine -- and definitely label more legibly)

(the only thing I'd do different --- oval cakes for the main boot part -- less carving! -- the ones from the course 2 kit would be real close to size needed)
