I was asked to make a Disco themed cake. I was thinking about making a Disco ball. Any ideas?

i love the disco ball idea. use wiltons round sports ball pan (both halves), cover in grey buttercream, smooth with roller or viva towel. then cut out lots of small fondant squares ( if you have the small wilton square cutters, this would be a good time to use them)- paint them with super pearl dust and lemon extract or vodka- then sprinkle rainbow sparkle dust over the entire cake. the super pearl over the squares will make it look reflective like a mirror and the rainbow sparkle will add just that...a rainbow sparkle! how fun. please post a comment to this thread when you post your photo, i can t wait to see your finished cake!

Love the ball idea and the description on how to is great...
The other thing i think of is Saturday Night Fever...you could have a square cake with the coloured squares with a figure dancing in the middle give the effect of a spot light shinning on them with using pale yellos dust or chalk on the floor round them and some on them and maybe the shadow on the dance floor too hmmm i can see it hard to describe hehe did it on my daughter idol cake for her disco party couple of years ago see attachment

First, AmyTracy, welcome to cc. I see this is your first post!
I think a disco ball would be hard ... but if you are up for other ideas, my first thought would be to do the album cover of Saturday Night Fever. It would have John Travolta in his white suit striking the pose on the multi-colored dance floor.

I like the Saturday Night Fever Theme... I have been going through the Gum Paste pictures...
There is a Bride/Groom figure found there... You may be able to copy him and make him look like John Travolta striking a pose like in the movie...
Not sure how much time you have.... if you can find clip art or an album cover... draw the words S. N. F. in royal icing and some how incorporate it into the floor or suspend it from something...
Hope this helps?
