I bought this a while ago,and just got a chance to use it, and i wasnt happy with it. I put alot of icing on the side of my cake to make sure it would work, then when i used it , it just looked aweful. Any tips on using it?

Are you talking about the thing that you can place different plastic pieces in to make different ridges? If so, there was a discussion on here awhile back, and from most people's viewpoints (mine included) they do not work well. I had trouble keeping the plastic pieces from falling out. Also, I think you have to have your icing REALLY thick to have it work properly. Mine looked horrible the one time I used it and I haven't tried it again.

I also have purchased this thing and it really did not work the way they calimed it would. I did go to the wilton homewares store (I live very close to Wiltons Coporate Headquarters)and the instructor there who teaches the master course made it look sooooo easy. I think she even struggled a bit. But, her cake did turn out quite nicely. She claims that you have to keep using it to get the hang of it.
Since then, I DID sell mine on ebay!!

Oh great! I haven't even used mine yet! I've had it for a while but just haven't had an opportunity to use it. Thank goodness I used my 40% off Joanns coupon. I just remember a thread about it a while back about the stupid "teeth" falling out of the plastic holder! That was enough to annoy me!!! icon_mad.gif

oh yes! as soon as you try to put the thing on the cake, the plastic things come right out! Don't try to turn the thing upside down, you will be sorry!!!

You have to squeeze REAL tight to try to get them to stay in. WHen i did mine it turned out having big holes and it looked really rough, it looked aweful. Maybe you need really soft icing. anyways, i probly wont use it again, i just got that triangle thing.

Maybe I bought it from you on Ebay about 1 month ago. LOL. Yeah, the teeth kept falling out on me too. Hahaha! I will give it another try one day. If it's still not working for me, then I will just put it to the side. LOL. Oh well. icon_smile.gif ~Josie

I struggled with mine too. But it worked well on whipped cream iced cakes. I think if we use a crusting BC it doesn't work as well because it is thicker and sets up. Grocery store bakeries use something like it all the time so they don't have to perfectly smooth their cakes but the one around here uses bettercream for their icing. So I just use it on my dessert cakes.
