I have a woman at my job whose boyfriend will be leaving for the navy and two weeks and requested a cake. She said she will leave all the ideas up to me, the design, the flavor everything. My dilema is I don't know much about the Navy except that I love their uniforms icon_redface.gif. and would love some help with ideas from anyone willing. Thanks In Advance

You may think I'm crazy.. But could you do a cake that looked like the hat they wear with the uniform? Shouldn't be difficult finding a picture of that and from the looks of your pictures it would be an easy cake!

You could do one of the sailor hats pretty easily. Just use a half ball pan and then use fondant{cut in a ribbon type strip}around it. Do you know what I mean? That would be easy and you could add it onto a sheet cake. Or you could make a denim type shirt with the hat.And maybe have his last name on the shirt. I don't know if you could duplicate the 2 fish type logo to put on it somewhere. My step dad was in the navy and he had like 3 different uniforms. The basic denim dungaree uniform, the white uniform and the tan uniform{which he rarely wore}.

Here are a few Navy symbols...
You could make a sheet cake then add a round cake in the center with one of the symbol on it . The on the sheet cake make boat ancors in the corners and add rope border. in a red white and blue design or just gold-yellow...

Okay I'm so totally blushing!!! icon_redface.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif I just had to check out this topic because Navy, of course!!!!! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Is he going to boot camp? Doing a cake of the Dixie hat or "cover" as they call it, would be great!!!!! You've got a great example right here on CC to go from!!!!! You could say "Great Lakes Here I come!" "Anchors' Away"

Let us know what you decide!!! I'll be very excited to see it!!!

Good luck! thumbs_up.gif

I just did one for marines, but you could substitute a navy seal on it. It's in my photos.

You may want to find out what he is going to be doing in the navy. Is he an officer or enlisted? Going to boot camp or an "A" school. If he is an officer and you make an enlisted uniform or vice versa that would be a MAJOR faux paux (sp) Will he be on surface ships, planes, subs? Those are all ideas that you could use. If you know what command he is going to you could make a cake of his commands patch. With more details of where he is going and what rank/rate he is would really help you decide what to do.
