Question About Using Bamboo Skewers
Baking By Newatdecorating Updated 13 Apr 2007 , 9:21pm by mitsel8

How many bamboo skewers, per cookie, do you use when making a bouquet?
Thanks!

I love using those skewers for doweling cakes, too!! I know they are food safe and the sharpened end goes easily through the cake boards. I've never had any problems with them!!

I use bamboo skewers all the time for cookies, and only one per cookie. The good thing is, they are so strong and skinny you can roll your cookie dough very thin! Bamboo is an incredibly strong material, so they work well!
Also, I can get them at my local GFS for $.59/100!

I forgot to ask how thick the cookies should be for the skewers?

One tip on skewers:
I don't think you can put them in before baking. Wooden skewers tend to burn unless their soaked in water beforehand. I bake my cookies on a flat cookie sheet and put the sticks in afterwards. I think my cookies are about 1/4 inch thick when I put them on sticks. just about the same as my regular cookies.
very cost effective way to do cookie bouquets.

I use wooden skewers, too. They seem to be a little stronger than the sticks to me... I put them immediately after I take them out of the oven, that way when the cookie cools, it sort of makes the skewer stick in the cookie better. I usually only use one per cookie, but it depends on the shape. I have a weiner dog cookie cutter thats kind of long, and I put two in for that one (one on the front feet and one on the back feet)
