What Brand Of Whipped Icing Does Wal-Mart Use?
Decorating By LNW Updated 5 May 2006 , 12:18am by leily

I thought it was Rich's but when I go to their site the whipped icing they describe sounds like it's only for a topping, not to ice a whole cake. I've got an order coming up and she wants whipped icing. I had planned on making it from scratch but she called me to specifically request the icing that Wal-Mart uses. Could someone please link me to where I can buy this stuff? TIA.

It is Rich's Bettercream. I bought a bucket at Sams and it says Rich's on the side. You can get like a 5 gallon bucket at Sams for like 22.00 (thats how much they charged me anyways). They also have a buttercream but on its label it just says Wal-mart brand. Hope this helps

The only thing about this bettercream is keep the bucket (If you buy it from Sams) in your fridge and only take out the amount you think you will need to ice the cake when you are ready to ice it. The bettercream in the bucket cannot sit out for long periods of time because it will get a thick airy consistency, and it will have a lot of air bubbles and it will be impossible to get smooth once it gets warm. If you leave the whole bucket sitting out and it gets warm and gets the thick airy consistency I dont know of anything you can do to get it back to the creamy texture it was when it is first opened. This icing is really yummmmmy on cake and it is actually easy to make roses with it. But if you put to much coloring in the bettercream it can get really runny and you wont be able to make roses, so usually pastel colors are best if you are using bettercream.
Hope this helps!

P.S. I see we have the same birthday! Happy Late Birthday to you I hope you had a good one!

can you leave the cake at room temp for a few hours when frosted with Rich's bettercream?

Great news that it can be purchased at Sams. Where do you look for it or do you have to ask a person behind the bakery counter. I've asked at Walmart and of course the young kids that happen to be there at that time do not have a clue what I am talking about. Does anyone know how long you can keep it in the frig, since it is a non-dairy product?????

wal-marts don't have the permission to sell it. So sam's club is your best bet-and not all sam's clubs sell it either =(
Their regular buttercream is made by Dawn's. A few years ago wal-mart had them put a private label on the icing, before that they all said Dawn, I am pretty sure they are still the one's making it. I couldn't tell a difference once the labels changed.
