Made Cake Without Oil..what Will Happen???

I just put my cake in the oven and went to start cleaning up when I saw the measured out oil on the counter. I never added it into my batter (box mix). I do not have enought eggs to make another cake tonight. Does anyone know what will happen to cake? Will it be edible? I am doing basketweave on the cake so I can cover any flaws. I cannot believe I spaced out like that. Anyone else do that before?

I have forgotten eggs before...I just threw the cake out, pulled it out of the oven and threw it out. I, too, wondered how in the world I forgot them when they were right in front of me......
I would think it may be dry but don't think it would fall apart...but that is just a guess

i wish i can help, but i don't know. i did make a cake once and subbed the oil for the same amount of melted butter. the cake came out fine, but i have to say i didn't like it as much. it seemed crumblier (is that a word? lol)
the oil makes it moist, so i would think it would be dry. maybe when it comes out, brush it with some simple syrup to make it moist? i would then smush down the dome and immediately wrap it in plastic to keep it moist.
i can't tell you about the taste, though. *knock on wood* i've never done it.
good luck.

It looks ok just denser than normal. It is just a practice cake I am making into a basket so I'm going to go with it. Oh well.

Maybe we should get together. Today I was making a cake, and I flipped the water and oil. 2 2/3 cups oil and 2/3 cups water........... yuck! I realized what I had done before I put it in the pan, but I was embarrassed! I put it all down the garbage disposal. I imagine that woulda been one nasty cake! LOL

Don't throw the cake away!!! I never add oil in my cakes and I have never had a problem! I like the way it taste better, not as dense, a much lighter cake!

i did this just 2 days ago! (I have a message posted about this cake, an edible icing crisis, same cake different disaster!) I had a migraine coming on, so I have an excuse, but I bought all the ingredients on the way home from work, mixed it up then threw it in the oven and went off to be with DH entrusted with the rest. Wasn't until I wondered what was in the shopping bag on the bench that I realised I hadn't added any butter. By then I had no time to make another cake. I tried some, the texture was fine, but didn't taste as rich. Until I decided to sandwich with an inch of buttercream to make up for it it might have been a very good diet cake!
