I wanted to make the Orange Dreamsicle Cake from the Cake Mix Doctor book tonight but I don't have any Miracle Whip salad dressing on hand.

Do you think I can substitute sour cream for the Miracle Whip dressing in this recipe? The note on the recipe is that the Miracle Whip "adds a richness to the cake without interfering with the flavor". Isn't that what sour cream also does? I *do* have sour cream on hand so I'm hoping the answer is yes!

Thanks!

I'm wondering if you could use mayo? I've used it in chocolate cakes before, and biscuits. Worked great. Just a suggestion, since I have never made this cake.

I've always used mayonnaise as a substitute for Miracle Whip in savory dishes...simply because I'm not a fan of Miracle Whip. And I've made lots of baked goods, especially chocolate cakes, using mayo and it adds that richness to it without the taste of mayo. I'm not sure sour cream would quite do the same thing....I'd sub with mayo. icon_smile.gif
