Hi all, I'm in a bind. I'm making a carrot cake for a friend's birthday tomorrow and found some pretty red and yellow tulips at the grocery store. The cake is simple, 3 9" rounds with lemon cream cheese frosting, and I'd like to put the tulips on top of the cake.

Has anyone ever done this before? I'd be super grateful for any help because I've never decorated with real flowers before.

Thanks so much and have a great day!

Roxy

If you aren't to sure about the flowers you can get aqua tubes (aquapics) get them usually at a florist or craft store....they are glass or plastic short tubes with a water tight seal.......that will hold a little water and can be pushed into the cake with the flower.

good luck

I looked it up today because I thought Tulips were listed on the poisionous flower list, what I came up with is the Tulip bulb is poisonous to animals if they eat it. I still don't think I would want to take the chance of some sap leaking from the cut stem, I would wrap them well with plastic wrap and insert them into flower picks or bubble straw so they don't come into contact with the cake or icing.

Or you can simply wrap the stems with ribbon like a bouqet and lay them on top - I've done this before and I think it looks pretty...

oh thats a beautiful cake. I love the borders and you matched the colours so well.
Having accidently licked my fingers after cutting tulip stems, i know how horrible the sap tastes. I would def avoid contact with the cake just because of that.
