I have an event coming up that I need black flowers for. I can't find them anywhere so I decided I would dye them myself. I can't get them to be any darker than a medium grey. i have tried adding double the dye and even using half the water called for and still can't get a good black. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on this? It would be greatly appreciated...

black shoe polish (tho' that might have a sheen)

india ink (that'll turn anything black)

possibly even food coloring

tho' exposed to light, high tendency for black dies like this to fade.

I would spray paint them with a matte black spray, stick them in straws or something so they aren't actually touching the surface of the cake.

What color flower did you start with before you started coloring them? Try starting with a dark blue or a red first and see where it gets you.

Check out the birthday supply part of the store. There is usually alot of black by the over the hill 40th birthday stuff. Hobby Lobby has a great selection of fake flowers. Great price on the flowers.
