I have two recipes - one for sugared flowers and one for sugared fruit. One calls for caster sugar and the other calls for superfine sugar.
Does anyone know where to buy "caster sugar?" My mother, who used to bake a lot, said it's just another word for superfine sugar (granulated, but very fine granules) and that I can probably get it under either name in the supermarket.
Another person told me it's not easy to find caster sugar in the US because it's mainly used by European and Caribbean pastry making but no so much here.
Anyone have the definitive answer?

I have seen superfine sugar in the baking aisle at Wegmans.. try whole foods if there is one in your area.. it is a little expensive.

Um, I'm pretty sure your mom is right..........it's what they call superfine sugar in Europe.....shouldn't be too hard to find, just about every supermarket where I live sells it right in the regular sugar section, sometimes I can only find it in the small boxes though.....you know how brown sugar comes sometimes? Good Luck

Imperial sugar sells it in a canister like Kraft parmesan cheese comes in.

Castor or caster sugar is the name of a very fine sugar in Britain, so named because the grains are small enough to fit though a sugar "caster" or sprinkler. It is sold as "superfine" sugar in the United States. Because of its fineness, it dissolves more quickly than regular white sugar, and so is especially useful in meringues and cold liquids. It is not as fine as confectioners sugar, which has been crushed mechanically (and generally mixed with a little starch to keep it from clumping).
If you dont have any castor sugar on hand, you can make your own by grinding granulated sugar for a couple of minutes in a food processor.

It's the same thing, and yes you can get it in the grocery store. I think it's a white box with pink on it.
For sugars and fruits you can use regular sugar and it is pretty.
Another thought, I think they use this to make mixed drinks. So if you can not find it in a grocery store, call a few liquor stores.

I get mine at walmart however i forgot what brand it is since i store it in a canister.

I'm not done looking yet, but I have been to Whole Foods and Genuardi's (Safeway) and haven't had any luck yet. I will try Acme and Superfresh later today but at the moment, I'm thinking I may be out of luck. You think Sugarcraft.com might carry it?

I ended up having to go to this gourmet grocer, Food Source, but I got it. They had plenty of Domino's Super Fine - cheap too, maybe $1.29 a box. I'm surprised that none of the others had it - I went to SuperFresh earlier today and left empty-handed.
Of course, no one had edible organic flowers for the cake i'm finishing tonight - not even violets. *sigh*
