Try this:
ROYAL ICING (EGG WHITES)

3 egg whites (room temperature)
4 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar

Beat all ingredients at high speed for 7 to 10 minutes.

I've never used this specific recipe but it is similar to one I used to have. Cream of tartar is a white powder probably with spices. Can you get it?

I replied in the thread you started about this yesterday. I don't think there is Cream of tartar available everywhere in Guatemala, MAYBE at a "Hyper Paiz". But it can be made without either.

Shortening, water, vanilla flavoring/extract and powdered sugar.

Got this from foodsubs.com:

cream of tartar
Substitutes: lemon juice (use 3 times as much) OR vinegar (use 3 times as much)

I'll remember that when I'm there this summer. Have to bring my own Tartar I guess.
