Can Royal Icing be kept soft for about three days - to be used in the decorations at different times?

Sueschev, I have made Royal Icing and put it in an airtight container and used it about a week or so later and it was still good. The only thing I found is that the sugar get liquid underneath the icing all I do is mix it well again and then use it. Hope this helps.

Yes, Royal icing cak be kept for up to 2 weeks.

The best way to store it is in a plastic container with a lid, but you will also want to put a piece of plastic wrap over the royal icing. I always push the plastic wrap down so that it is touching the icing, then put the lid on.

When you go to use it again, it will be drier and thicker than when you put it in there....no problem! Just add a little more water and stir and it brings it back to useable condition. Just make sure to add water a little at a time...it shouldn't take too much!

Also, make sure you store it at room temperature.

Hope this is what you needed!

Personally I store left over royal in a glass bowl. Plastic bowls can retain grease even after washing.

I place a piece of plastic wrap right on top of the royal, then cover the bowl very well, usually with press and seal. You want to rebeat your royal before you use it, as it will seperate.

for my royal I always use new plastic containers or ones that I use only for royal icing, I mark both the container and lid so that it not used for anything else

yes we have stored ours before for a couple of weeks, the plastic wrap is a must, the sealed container is not enough. As previously mentioned you must whip it up again...

So you don't need to refrigerate Royal Icing?

hubby chef says he stores it in the fridge... 2 weeks for home made royal icing and maybe a little longer for the packet type that you just add water to. Always with plastic wrap firmly on it as a skin.

From my understand it doesn't, though some here say they do.

I have never ready anything in the wilton books that tells you to put it in the fridge.

Since royal icing doesn't have anything perishable in it, it does not need refrigeration. That was according to my Wilton instructor. Hope this helps!

I've never refridgerated it either. I usually keep it for up to 2 weeks after I mix it. I can only make flowers and such at night after the kids go to bed, and I can only do so many in a day (limited number of flower formers and all) so I usually end up doing a week or two of making different ones every night till I either run out of frosting or have enough of what I feel I'll need to keep me decorating for the next 4-6 months.
