hi! Thanks for you comments on my sugar eggs! These are really easy to make:
I use the 4 cups sugar, 3 tbsp meringue powder and 3 tbsp. water, if you are going to color the sugar, dip the dye in the water, THEN add to the sugar/meringue mix.
I molded them then placed them on a cardboard flat, that I then put on a cookie sheet and baked them at 200 degrees for 20 minutes, then scooped them out. Don't forget! If you are putting a peep hole on the end, to slice the narrow end of the egg, but don't remove it until you are finished baking.
I just finished all the royal icing flowers, bunnies, ducks and chicks last night. So all I have to do now is just attach everything.
I would make all my little critters, flowers, etc all at once, then at least you have them ready and can just insert them when you are ready.
I bought the molds on ebay, just look for Wilton egg molds, just make sure you really pack in the sugar in the mold really tight, then flip it over onto the cardboard. And don't forget to cut off the end, but keep it still next to the egg so that you can hollow it out. Or if you are doing a stand up egg, cut off the narrow end, remove it completely then kinda slice off a bit off the top of the rounded part so you can hollow it out then chip through when it's done baking to make your hole. Does that make sense?
PM me if you have any more questions!

Oh my gosh!! I remember making these when I was little with my grandmother. I had actually asked her awhile back if she would help me make some since it has been years since I have even seen these around here, but we have never been able to find the time...
You did an awesome job! Now Im really inspired to make some of my own now!!

hi,
I have a question, why do you add meringue power, and not just sugar and water?
Thanks
