I am doing a baby shower cake for Saturday and she wants a 6 inch on the bottom but I am kind of lost on what size to do on the top? She wants it like 2 presents. The cake will be covered in white fondant and the bottom layer will have pastel dots and the top will have a pastel bow. I was just going to bake one big cake and cut my cakes out. I am not sure what size to put on top. The cake only needs to feed 20 people. please help[/b]

I thought the same way that you are but she is bound and determined that the bottom layer needs to be six inches. I have a list of questions for her, so I will be calling her tonight to finalize everything so I am going to tell her that I don't think that is going to feed 20 people. I think she doesn't want any cake left over. Not sure but I will let you know what she says. Thanks

This is a time, when as a cake decorator, you step in and instruct her what she wants.
You say, "a cake with a 6 inch tier on the bottom that would have to have a 10 inch tier on top. This would make it very unstable. I can make a cake with a 6 inch bottom but it will not come close to feeding 20 people. What would you like to do?"

IF they are squares, and IF she cuts them to wedding size servings (1x2x4"high) then you can get 26 servings out of a 6" and a 4" on top. make sure they are double layers though. i would also suggest torting each one so that there are 3 layers of filling inside so the small pieces dont seem so small- and provide a cutting chart.
