I have a friend who wants to do a cheesecake for her boyfriend for a surprise. After years of trying and doing volunteering in the mean time, he has gotten a paid job with a fire dept. He only likes cheesecake but she doesn't want it to be just plain jane. She was hoping she could add the logo for his department onto it in someway and realized that frosting a cheesecake is out of the question.
I suggested doing an icing image and putting it on a fondant "plaque" and either sticking it in the cheesecake with back support or putting it directly on top and then taking it off before eating it.
I love you guys and you can all be soo creative, so I'm wondering..... any one have any better ideas?

Instead of putting the edible image on fondant, what if you frosted just the back of the image with white buttercream and then laid it on top of the cheesecake. Then it could be sliced and eaten right along with the rest of the cake. Maybe even decorate around it with some berries (dry so they don't damage the image), candy/chocolates or flowers.

That's what I first suggested, but she said that he doesn't like frosting really at all, so it makes her nervous to put it on the cake.
Do you think the image could be applied directly to the cheesecake?
I think it would stick but it wouldn't disolve and would probably end up with spots on it from the moisture with the color of the cheesecake showing through.
What about printing out the image on regular paper and then laminating it to use as a cake topper? That could be kept as a keepsake.

Would cream cheese frosting work? I know it's frosting, but it would be a similar flavor. Anyway, they could cut the cheescake in a non-traditional way--around the frosted part. That way, if someone liked frosting, they could have that part. I've seen some people cut a round cake in 1/2 and then slice each 1/2, but not into wedges. (Does this make sense to anybody? I know exactly what it would look like, but describing this is difficult. )
Well, it's just an idea. GOOD LUCK!!!

I also thought I'd add that the amount of buttercream needed to coat the back of the edible image would be very little...1/8" thick or less.

If she doesn't like icing and icing isn't expected on a cheesecake....
Maybe a chocolate transfer instead?

That is what I was thinking too!

I know it's not exactly what you were asking about but just a thought, you can color the batter. She could write a message or pipe a design directly onto the cheescake BEFORE baking. It settles right into the cake. Then maybe make a small badge out of chocolate and set in against the front side of the cake? Just a thought.

I recently did a fresh cream cake with an edible image and it worked fine. I'm sure the cheese cake will be good with the whipped fresh cream.
I did however add stabliser to the cream and then just whipped it until it had soft but firm peaks. I added the image and it fused really well with the image and a day later the image was still totally fine. Yo can then just pipe a border around the image.

A chocolate transfer can have a stick added to it and be inserted into a cake for easy removal.

I'd go with the fondant too. I've done it before and it works great!

You can put an edible image on chocolate. Most people like chocolate and it happens to go well with cheesecake. Spread a thin layer and white it's still a little tacky, lay the edible image onto it and run a spatula or your hand over the image to remove any air bubbles. I just happened to talk to a manufacturer of frosting sheets about this yesterday. Good luck.

This works great too but it will make the image shiny on top and can sometimes fade out the colors a little. It will look like it's just a part of the chocolate though which is really neat.

my friend puts edible images on Jello.... she does this by drawing with markers on rice paper ... she put's the image on the cake the day of consumption ... I don't see why the same would not apply to cheese cake ... I think if you put it last minute it should be fine

Which marker brand did she use? I tried that before on Jello and it blurred out.
