Edible Feather Boa???

I just saw a cake in the gallery done by mommymarilyn, that I loved (tiara and feather boa cake).

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions how to make an edible feather boa? I love the look of the cake and would like to try something similar. I've been wanting to try a tiara from royal icing (Colette Peters, Cakes to Dream On - a few CC members have done some as well) and think a cake similar to this one would be perfect. I really like the look of the feather boa but, would like to try something that is edible.

Any ideas??

i love that cake as well, and was wondering how to do the boa edibel....what about cotton candy? its kinda fluffy.

Perhaps rice paper cut to resemble feathers?

Look at this cake.. she did animal fur and it looks like you could use it as feathers... just a thought.

Iwould use cotton candy it looks fluffy like the one in the pic.

I saw a website once by a British cake designer (I think she was out of London) who makes "feather cakes"...so sorry, but I didn't bookmark it or even save an image from it. But the cakes looked like tiers of cake covered in feathers...I thought the feathers were real, but they were made of rice paper, I believe. Try doing a search for "feather cakes" and see what comes up. Wish I could be of more help icon_rolleyes.gif

Don't mean to be a bother, but here's another one that looks a little more like feathers, to me...and it looks like she painted the tips of them a little.

What great ideas! Thanks everyone. I'll probably try the cotton candy idea this time. The animal fur idea and rice paper also look great but, I think I'm going to make this for my daughter's birthday and cotton candy sounds perfect for a kids cake! icon_lol.gif

I've never worked with rice paper before, but after seeing those cakes, I think I might have to go buy some.

They might have it at Michael's, Hobby Lobby or something like that...or maybe even in the Asian food section at the grocery store? Not sure...but I think you'd have to make sure that it's edible rice paper. There may be a rice paper they sell that's more for paper crafts or something.???

I'm not sure where you guys are from but there is a place called the Bulk Barn (in Canada) and you can get rice paper there. It's easy to work with and it's edible. You can cut it, paint it, use it to transfer pictures, etc.
