Is there any preference where to take the Wilton Classes--Hobby Lobby or Michael's? There are both stores in my town, BUT, this Sunday's paper has a 1/2 off coupon for the price of classes at Hobby Lobby which start next week. icon_smile.gif

I don't really think it matters about the store. I think the instructor is what really counts! I took mine at Hobby Lobby. The coupons made it nice for the supplies too. I didn't really care for my instructor at Hobby Lobby and have since heard the one at Michael's was better.

But in hind sight I think it didn't matter too much. I got the book and supplies I needed. And learn more on my own.

I think if you can get some recommendations on the teacher would be a good idea. But half off is a good deal also.

HTH!!!

I agree it's definately the instructor that counts. As far as the coupon see if Micheals will honor it, they do Jo-Ann and vice a versa.

Okay sorta off topic but do you know if most instructors will let you make up classes? My husband is rarely home for 4 weeks straight. So trying to take a class is impossible LOL So do you think they would let me make up one week of the class. For example I can take the first 3 classes but husband will be gone for week 4 could I make up week 4 the next time they offer it?

sorry to hijack! LOL

I took Course 1 and 2 at Hobby Lobby, then took Course 3 and the Gum Paste/ fondant course at Michael's.

The Course 1 instructor didn't go over character cakes or figure piping, the Course 2 instructor I did not care for.

The instructor at Michael's has been incredible; I wish I would have taken Course 1 and 2 from her.

Pucka1378, some instructors let you make up the class but you have to remember there may be several weeks between your 3rd class and the date of the 4th class of the next course. Talk with the instructor and explain the situation; I find them very willing to work with you. Worst case senario, you'd have the knowledge of the first 3 classes and the book that you could work from on your own. It's better than not taking the class at all.

I'm not sure if that is a coupon in the paper or just the advertisement that the classes start next week and that they are half off, which is the montly promotion for Hobby Lobby this next month. Infact I think Hobby Lobby Wilton Classes will be half off until the atleast the summer months.

Michaels has it's own promotions so while you can use HL coupons I don't think you can use this at Michaels. Plus I know Michaels does not except coupons on their classes.

Michaels promotion for March is buy the kit get the class free.

I agree with others I don't think one store is better than the other, the instructors are more important. But you can't really find that out until you try. I would see which one is offering the classes at the best time for you to take them, and which one is easiest for you to get to. icon_smile.gif

As far as the question on making up a class. Most instructors will let you join in on the night you missed the next time they are offering the classes. I try to work with my students and tell them if they let me know when they will miss we may be able to come early or stay a little later to so I can show them what they will miss. So definetly talk to the instructor and let her know the situation and see is she will work with you.

Hey, it's great to hear from TexasSugar. I was thinking of you just the other day-that I hadn't read anything from you for awhile (or maybe I'm just reading the wrong place). I think your contributions to conversations regarding Wilton classes and methods are invaluable. I'm finishing up the fondant/gum paste flower class and I have to say I'm disappointed. They should rename the class "More fondant cakes and just a wee bit of gum paste flowers".

Thanks for all the replies. Guess I will just call and get more info and see if I know the instructor at each store.

I believe the instructor is a big key to your success in taking the Wilton classes -- it's wise to get some info from former students if possible. Also, Hobby Lobby has all Wilton supplies on sale this week for 30% off -- don't need a coupon -- all you want of Wilton for 30% off.
