Anyone have something i could make to help surpress a caugh? I've taken prescription caugh syrup and it still won't go away. Any help??? My stomach can't take anymore ,and i feel like i'm about to cough up my lungs. 
I swear by Delsym (dextromethorphan polistirex). It comes in an orange box with blue letters. It says it lasts 12 hours but I would say more like 8 but it is the best cough suppressent my family has ever tried. Also, I alwasy rub my kids's backs and chests with vick vapor rub.

Delsym will work and it's not disgusting. It has orange flavoring. It's expensive, but worth it.
The caugh syrup i have is like desylm ,but has codeine added(thats why its prescritption). I wish they had a pill for it because i seriously want to throw up whnever i take it. Its worst than eating a charcoal burnt cake. 
The codeine is just to help you sleep. Too much cough syrup or cough drops upset my stomach, but I can tolerate the delsym ok. Hope you feel better soon.
I'll try deslym now. God anythings better than then that caugh syrup. I think we have robitussun(sp?) somewhere.. Will that work just as well?
You can ask your doctor for a pill. My husband gets lung congestion and he hates syrups so the doctor will prescribe a pill.
Try the herb lobelia if you have chest congestion. I got my husband to start taking that when he first starts getting the congestion and it really works for him.
It would really depend on where your cough is coming from. Are you coughing because you have post nasal and it is iritating the back of your throat or are you coughing because your lungs are congested?
Sorry, I was really being positive about delsym. I don't like any syrups and the little time release grains in the delsym gross me out but its probably leftover from my childhood.

I don't mind delsym. I prefer the taste over Niquil or robitussun.
Cybourg: I can't figure it out right now. The doctor said it was bronchitus(sp?) or something ,but right now my nose is stuffed(it wasn't yesterday) So the irritant might have changed. Or maybe its both. 
Delsym isn't really that bad, it is orange flavored. Its probably the codine upsetting your stomach. What are you taking? They have so many different things now, I always read the technical name to make sure of things. I know the new sudaphed (phenylephrine) doesn't work as well for me like the old kind (pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride) you have to get from the pharmacy now. If it is the exact same as Delsym (dextromethorphan polistirex) then maybe try the Mucinex and see if that will work for you better.
My Mom swears but just the plain old Vicks vapor rub on your chest and back. But then again, she would probably tell you to take some honey, lemon juice and whiskey to help your cough at night, LOL!! I can remember that as a kid, quick call CPS, LOL,!!

Your probably right that its the codeine upsetting my stomach. The syrup is Guaifenesin.. I've never heard of it.
LOL I might jsut try that. I'm sipping some tea and honey now ,but still isn't do enough to help me. We jsut bought those Vicks shower tablets that dissolve in the shower. I'mn going to try that. I love vicks rub to ,but i think we're out. 
That might be part of the problem. Guaifenesin is an expectorant. Guaifenesin loosens phlegm and increases the lubrication of your lungs allowing for a productive cough and decreased chest congestion.

Guafisen (sp?) is in a lot of cold medicines. Mucinex is an extended release guafisen. The anitbiotic for your bronchitis should kick in quickly and ease your coughing. Bronchitis sucks big time. The delsym does seem to be the best for coughs that just won't stop.
I'd add a 1/2 shot of liquor to that tea so you can sleep. (Seriously!)
Aw man i found a bottle of Delsym and apparently its expired! :/ I can't even find the robitussun. Do you think Nyquil would do the job?
I just started the anitbiotics yesterday. Hopefully they'll kick in soon.

How far past?? So it is just that and codeine? No mention of anything else that would suppress a cough? I wouldn't want to take just an expectorant at night. You need your rest then. Did he put you on an antibiotic for the bronchitis?? I hope so. I am pretty sure you can take the Delsym along with the expectorant if you still want to take that.

How expired? The drug companies do build in a lot of extra time with the meds. As long as it's not your heart medicine or something crucial, you can take expired med. The drug company just doesn't guarantee it's effectiveness past the expiration date. The old cough syrup won't hurt you. It just might not help you.
I'm going to fix myself a hot toddy and go to bed. I'm hyped on Excedrin that I took hours ago for a headache. 
The doctor did give me antibiotics. I forgot what kind of exactly ,but ah well. The deslym expired 03 2005. You think thats alright? Or should i just take nyquil?
I am pretty sure my Mom says whiskey but it might be bourbon. I remember both Jack Daniel's & Wild Turkey around the house.
If it were me, I would take the Delsym. I might take a little more than the normal dose. It won't hurt, just might not be as effective like bubblezmom (hope your headache goes away) said.

I am new to the forum, but I know how bad is to be sick to your tummy beause of meds...
but there is a home remedy that can help your tummy feel better in no time and calm some of the cough.
1. take 4 cups of water and boil them then add 2 tablespons of Camolime, 1 orage peeld and let it sit for about 10 minutes.
2. then strain it and add honey to taste and sip slowly
it works miracles, I just got over phemonia so i know your pain
