Anyone have any penguin cake deco. ideas/recipes?

I want to make a penguin themed cake for my 8 year old son's birthday. Doesn't need to be complicated. Also, I prefer everything to be edible and sweet (I've seen penguins made from olives, which I'd like to avoid)!

So far, I thought of making a sheet cake and using a small Wilton sports ball mold to make an igloo or two for the sheet cake "landscape". The penguins allude me, though.
Thanks for your help!

I have a penguin cake in my gallery with fondant penguins. They were the first fondant figures I'd ever tried and very easy. PM me if you'd like to know how I did them.
Be sure to post a pic when you finish your cake!

I loved all the cakes and ideas. I really thought the igloo would be adorable and that the fondant penguins made by shelbur10 would be perfect. Very adorable cakes everyone. Please post pics as my son is really into penguins.

GardenLady,

I just found this when doing a search in the gallery for ideas on my next project and thought it was close to what you were describing.

Good luck.

I made this one a few weeks ago. The penguins were pretty easy. I just rolled black fondant into a sausage and made it thicker on the bottom, rolled out a bit of white and stuck it on. Then made little arms and a face. Blue piping gel for the water and sprinkled with edible glitter.

If you can find the bowling pin cake, you can bake two of those, and put them together, cover it with fondant, give him wings, a beak, and Happy Feet, and you have a 3-D penguin.

You may have to use extra dowels to keep it upright, but I think it will work.

The penguin cake mold that gram used is on clearance at Pfaltzgraff for $9.96. I just ordered mine... I have no plans to make a penguin cake but came across this post and it was so cute I couldn't resist...

Here's the link...
