I have an order for sugar cookies with royal icing that will be shipped to Iraq. I am worried about the cookies spoiling in transit. I know the royal icing will be fine but I am not sure about the cookies. Is there a recipe that will not spoil as quick as the No Fail Sugar Cookies? I love that recipe but have my doubts that they will be shipped and take less than a week to arrive in Iraq. I would hate for any troops to get spoiled cookies.

THANKS!! usaribbon.gif

First thought was can you use faster shipping?? I wouldn't imagine that any cookie would last longer than another kind. Maybe a week or so, but would you really want something that last that much longer?

Nope, don't want to send them some cardboard like cookie, LOL!! I am not doing the shipping. I told me friend I would be concerned if the cookies didn't arrived within a few days of shipping that they might spoil. She seems to think they won't have any trouble arriving in a few days and should not spoil. I guess I am basing my shipping worries on my own experiences with Navy Deployments and them being on a ship I guess makes mail a lot slower than shipping to those on land. I actually got a letter from my hubby sent to me while he was still deployed after he had been home for few weeks, LOL. usaribbon.gif

Anyhow, I thought I read a thread on here where someone posted they made sugar cookies without butter I think because they would last longer. I have searched but I can't seem to find that thread.

THANKS!

Oh ok, I gotcha now thumbs_up.gif Reason I said that first is b/c I didn't know how long it would take to get to them anyway. From what I've read about the no fail cookie, they last a week or so. I recently made some to put on a cake I'm doing this weekend and they will be about a week old. I have mine stored in a tupperwear dish with a couple of slices of bread. Old wives tale about keeping the cookies fresh and soft and it works too!? Think they'd mind having the throw the bread away!? LOL
Hope someone else can give you some ideas! Good luck!!!

Thanks mamafrogcakes, I don't think they would mind the bread. Heck, they might just eat that too, LOL!! I also read a post where it was suggested to pop some popcorn and use that to pack the box with. I was thinking of suggesting that to my friend too. I am sure the troops wouldn't mind the popcorn either. I wonder if you placed that in ziplock bag and put the cookies (in bags) in there with that if they would be able to eat the popcorn too. Worth a thought, LOL!!

If they are wrapped in cellophane, then something like Saran Wrap...the No-Fail are good for 10-14 days. (I ate one this morning from 9 days ago...yum!)

Okay THANKS Helen for the reply I should have known you would know how long they last. I will quit worrying about them then. I thought it was one week from when they were baked. Since I need to bake Sunday and decorate Monday and Tuesday it would be Wednesday at the earliest before they could be shipped. They never last that long around me. icon_biggrin.gif
