Hi everyone
I have seen this lovely marbles effect today in fondant icing
http://www.cakecreationsbypaula.com/wedding_cake_11.htm

I am not sure how to get it Is it fondant of one colour with ovals and circles rolled in of another colour. It is the swirls of colour that fascinates me and I would love any advice on getting that effect .Maybe not that exotic but a basic idea of the same thing would be lovely. Has anyone ever managed to get that effect Thanks in advance.
Leonora.

I have "marbled" fondant by taking my white fondant, then using a toothpick, putting tiny dots of gel paste color I am using. Then I just kneaded, the trick to it was to UNDER-knead, so you don't incorporate the color all the way thru. That is the way I did it, but I am sure that someone here has a nice trick for it! I ususally take 1 color fondant and twist with another color around like a candy cane pattern. But deff do under mix it so you get and keep better color deffinition.

Here's a video from Satin Ice on how to marbelize fondant: http://www.atecousa.net/learn/satin_ice_3.shtml

I've never intentionally made marbelized fondant but I have "see it" take shape whenever I mix color in my white fondant. About half way through it you can see it start to marbelize. At that point, I would say stop kneding and start rolling with rolling pin. That should do the trick!

Those two tuts were absolutely fabulous both so clear. It is now clear to me it is time to start making cakes and playing with different frostings. I have never done it and so far have been frightened. That video was fabulous but the whole site was a revelation, I had not realised there were so many cakes tips and that each one can produce so many different effects.
Wll Ladies I am off to bake a cake great site superb info but the learning curve is going to bget steeper when I actually do something for myself.
Thanks Leonora.

that's the method we use and it works well, I've also rolled out colors and placed thin strips as overlays in random patterns over white fondant which produces a more pronounced veining effect
