in my Wilton classes we were supposed to use the following crisco only recipe:
1 cup solid vegetable shortening
1 teaspoon Clear Vanilla
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar (approx. 1 lb.)
2 tablespoons water or milk
It makes a very useable icing, especially for practicing, but I found it tasted aweful and left a film in your mouth so I began to use 1/2 crisco and 1/2 butter.

My cake teacher told us to use this recipe for class
2/3 - cup shortening(crisco)
2 1/2 - boxes 1ox sugar(confectioner)
3/4 - cup milk or water
2 - tsp. flavoring of choice
1/2 - tsp. salt
1 - Tbsp Lemon juice
Combine all ingredients in bowl & mix for 5 minutes or until smooth.

if u dont like the taste of that...may i suggest the dream whip icing...i just changed to that recipe and i love it.

Is this the Dreamy Cream recipe found on CC?
I'm not sure if this is the same recipe cakefairy uses but it's highly rated.

Sorry, forgot to ask...where can I find Dream Whip powder?
In the grocery store where I shop, it's located in the aisle with all the other dessert mixes and kits. Jello cheesecake kits, oreo crumbs are in that same section.

here is the crisco recipe I use....its the best I have found so far.
3/4C Crisco
6C confectioners sugar
1/2C water
1/2tsp salt
1tsp butter flavoring
1tsp vanilla extract(or Wilton Clear Vanilla Flavoring)
1/3C non dairy coffee creamer(powdered)
mix all together and beat on high for about 5 minutes.
I use it for piping decorations also. Ken

yes thats the one...but instead of putting 2 T of dream whip powder i use the whole thing
tastes great...not too sweet and light and fluffy!
