Has anyone used silicone pans? I just saw a set on Overstock that came with metal frames for easier handling. I'm just curious if they're worth the trouble and $$?

I have some and don't particularly care for them, especially for baking. The baked goods always crack because of the flexible pans unless I put a cookie sheet underneath, and then they don't really cook evenly/all the way through.
They are, however, pretty good for meats and such since they don't really get that "baked-on grease".

I don't like them - I just am not used to the timing. Also, I like those magic cake strips (to bake the cakes more evenly) which are for metal pans - i don't think they work on the silicone ones.

I have one 12 muffin pan. Only bought it to make caramel spiders with not to bake with.

i've been ranting my story on every silicone bakeware post there is.
i have a mini muffin pan with a metal sled. even so, the pan warped when baking and emmited an awful smell that set off my fire alarm. it left my kitchen smelling funny for the rest of the day...kind of like baking playdoh or something.
the muffins looked quite nice after coming out of the oven until...i tried to take them out of the pan. they stuck like no other! managed to salvage 2 whole muffins after half an hour of painstakingly prying them out slowly and carefully. not a good experience for me.

won't have one now. I borrowed one from a friend (she hadn't use it yet). What a mess! the pans need support at all times, then it smelled as it was baking, then the cake split in two befor I could get it out of the pan! They will have to do some major stuctural support remodels on these befor I'll try them again.

I guess this puts that issue to rest! Thanks for the heads up.

glad to help in your decision not to waste money on these

The only silicone pan I used was a bundt pan and I loved it! I hate cleaning a regular metal bundt pan, this was a piece of cake
I make monkey bread in it and it slides right out. Doesn't take any longer than a regular bundt pan and clean up is a breeze. Won't use the silicone pans for anything else, but I love the bundt.
