Describe The Flavor Of Creme Bouquet
Baking By GeminiRJ Updated 31 Mar 2009 , 3:21am by dandelion56602
I'm thinking of trying some different flavorings in my sugar cookies, and was wondering about creme bouquet. I know I've seen where some people have used it. What, exactly, is the flavor? Is it a richer vanilla? A bit like almond, maybe? Buttery? I'm at a loss. I saw some of the flavoring at a local shop (Wilton brand) and can't decide if I should invest in it or not.
Great question, i was thinking the same thing. I've seen it at the cake shop but didn't want to buy the large bottle they sell, and then hate it. I remember not long ago i bought artificial butter extract.bleck. I just hated it.
It sounds like so many use creme bouquet, so i figure it must have some good qualities. Can't wait to see what other say.
I was wondering the same thing. I just ordered some, I'll report back in when I get it and get to use it!!
Differnt brands taste diff ... Magic Line taste more citrusy and o, whats the other BIG brand? um ... anyways, its more Vanillay .. I LOVE Creme Bouquet! Ummmmy!
I just make my own - that way I can tweak it ..
I thought I saw a recipe posted here a while ago and it was part vanilla, almond, lemon and butter flavoring. Not all equal parts. I would love the recipe too, I just don't like the taste of artificial flavorings. I just bought some from LorAnn and the ones that have the artificial ingredients just smell wierd and I haven't had the guts to make a whole batch and hate the taste.
I have a big bottle of it someone can have! I think its kind of lemony. Along with something I can't describe. I actually cannot stand the flavor....seems like from what I hear, you either love it or hate it. Because I love lemon, and I love vanilla, but I really don't care for creme bouquet.
How do you make your own? I would love to make it but I don't know what is in it.
I
cannot
take credit for this recipe .. I got it off another thread, somewhere out there (please forgive me I dont remember from who!) Ive been making this a while now - everyone here loves it. I ALWAYS use it for white/vanilla cakes/BC - NO chocolate thou *ack*
Homemade Creme Bouquet
1T. Lemon Juice (NOT extract! Extract = Nasty!)
1tsp. Vanilla extract
1tsp. Almond extract
1tsp. Butter extract
Mix together and refrig.
Only use a small amt .. its very potent
I usually add whatever vanilla my recipe calls for (or almond/whatever)
then to a full amt of BC or NFSC, I add 1/2-1 tsp. Creme Bouquet.
You just have to try it and see what works for you - some ppl like more - some less .. I found how I do usually works best for me
HTH .. and Good Luck!
BTW: If you can get Magic Lines .. get it, its great!
Thanks GayeG! That helps give me an idea what to expect. I've only seen the artificial flavor, and wasn't sure I wanted to try it. I usually only use real vanilla in my cookies, but tried some artificial almond once. I love almond, but with the flavoring in the cookies and the icing, the aftertaste was bothersome.
I have a full bottle of it. It is too lemony for me. It could be that when I used it, I did not put in my extract and then just add that as additional.
Also may try the homemade version to see if I like it better.
If you have not tried Maple flavor extract, you should. It sounds kind of syrupy and yucky but when you put it in a cookie dough you can't recognize the flavor as maple and people just look at you and say "What is that flavor? I have NEVER had anyone figure it out. I use Mapleine brand.
I also just found a combination that I really LOVE. In the NSFC recipe where it calls for 2 tsp extract, use one teaspoon Madagascar vanilla and one teaspoon Vanilla Nut (by Watkins). I am always trying new combinations and this is my most favorite so far. I tried one of my cookies last week(I rarely sample) using this recipe and I thought "WOW did I really bake that?" I impressed myself and that is pretty hard to do
I also like the Butter-Nut (maybe the same as Vanilla-Nut?) in my NFSC! Yumm I might have to try that Maple .. that sounds good too!
I remembered the other Creme B that I really liked .. its by CK .. or Superior - they are more Vanilla-y which I think works better if you dont want the citrus-y flavor. Ppl here dont care for the citrus flavor (I love it) but Im not baking for "me!" Most of the time that is!!
Has anyone tried the Wedding Bouquet flavoring ? I imagine it's similar?...but not sure exactly what it tastes like either.

I use cream bouquet as one of my flavorings in my BC icing. I use 1 1/2 tsp. of Cream Bouquet and 1 tsp. of Valencia and 1 tsp of butter ext (because I use IndyDebi's BC recipe that has no butter) I got the extract combo from an "old school" wilton instructor. It's great together! Deb.
Sunnigirl...I forget what the ingredients are for Valencia...I think cherry is one of them...it is very strong and found next to the other extracts at my local party store. Maybe anothter poster can define it. Sorry.
I tried to find Valencia this week-end Nowhere! Guess Im just gonna have to buy online! .. I think the man at my supply store said it was cherry, vanilla & butter .. but he wasnt sure either .. I cant wait to try it!! Anything cherry is yummy to me!
GayeG, thanks for the recipe. Can't wait to try it.
Your Welcome!
Ooooh, cherry vanilla w/ creme bouquet sounds good.
Creme bouquet has a definite citrus flavor. I would say buttery almond vanilla w/a citrus undertone. And it won't take as much of it as it does other extracts or you WILL be overwhelmed. I've found a slight flavor is lovely, a strong flavor is RICH.
Can't wait to try the home brew
