Went to Topeka again this morning. I keep thinking I'll get better at this, but no luck yet. Also, I meant to say "the technique I use", not "my technique". I hope that doesn't imply I invented this technique. *sigh* -- just trying to fill the time slot with interesting stuff. And it would be a whole lot easier to get up at 2:45am if I went to bed before 1am! For August, I vow to go to bed at 8 pm. Anhow, here's the link: http://www.49abcnews.com/news/2007/jul/10/word_appeal_sutterby_shows_how_write_appetizing_me/
Great demo, Rebecca! Beautiful cake, too!
BTW, your Hugs & Stitches cake was the inspiration for the one I did, although I changed it up a bit (in my pics). Thanks so much - your work is awesome!!
Bec

Thanks for sharing!! i wish i could see this video, my pc seems to skip so much and start all over. augh
thanks for the tip! So with BC, you have to wait for it to crust in order to use the pin-prick method?
As someone seriously challenged in the area of writing on cakes, I thank you for that tip. I'm going to try it on the topsy turvy cake I'm working on now!
Cakebaker, you're website is wonderful! How do you do the fondant daisies (?) on the front page?

Oh my god ,oh my god ,I just checked out your web site and realized you rae THE Rebecca.I thpought you were just sharing her demo.Love your cakes .Awesome awesome work.
To CakeBaker: Your cakes are amazing, would you mind sharing what type of fondant you purchase and use on your cakes? Thanks for your reply.
They are fondant daisies .They are made using daisies cutter. They are available on almost all cake supply stores.Very easy to find.
Hey, ya'll! Sorry, I just now saw these last responses. I've been using FondX for the last couple years and really love it.
On the daisies, I had an article in the Feb/March issue of ACD that showed the technique, but I'll give you a little run-down -- I usually use gumpaste for that sort of thing. I'm trying to remember which brand my cutter is -- Orchard Products, I think. (it's white) I cut them out, thin each petal slightly around the edges with a ball tool, and vein down the center of each petal with a dresden tool. The centers are from a mold I got from Squires Kitchen, but I think Sunflower Sugar Art also makes a very similar mold now. Anyhow, I make two layers of petals and the center and assemble, then place the flower into a foil form to dry.
Next ABC appearance will be Aug. 14th -- haven't decided yet what I'm doing. Possibly ribbon roses & other whimsical flowers, but that's not set in stone.
