I saw this last night...not sure when it first aired...but the winner was Susan O'Doyle Jacobson or Jacabson O'Doyle. Anyway, apparently she has passed away.
Wasn't she one of the judges at the sugar show and competition at the Texas culinary school in Austin, Texas this year? She looked very familiar.
Anyone have any info??
I believe she might be the person that contributed her experience to American Cake Decorating Magazine. I am not a 100% sure though.
I think it was taped last spring. She died shortly thereafter. I live not far from Mall of America where all the challenges lately were taped and I didn't get to one of them! Bummer! She lived here in Minnesota. Yeah, she was in ACD a lot! She taught somewhere here.
OK...guess I should have look at the Food Neetwork site first.
Here's an update. She passed away shortly after winning the contest.

There is a tribute to her on the ICES website. The competition was in May of this year and she died of a massive heart attack 2 days after winning. She is surely missed, but I was glad to know that her husband, daughter and grandchildren were with her at her last competition and that she won.
Enjoyed the program a lot. How sad she died the next day, just after winning the contest.
I had also heard last week she died after the competition, so as I watched the aired competition last night, I cried my eyes out watching as they occassionally turned the camera to her husband and how thrilled he looked watching her. I was so saddened when she made a comment during the show that for the last 2 weeks she wasn't even home much due to the contest preparation. How I bet her husband wishes he could have those 2 weeks back again!
God bless her.
wow! I saw that challenge too and was soo surprised. Wow -- you just never know. I'm glad she won and like others said -- and her kids/family were with her.
Here is the orginal thread that couture started. the competition was taped in late April. She passed away a day later. Her service was heart breaking and hard to go to. The man that they showed was not her husband but a good friend. If you look in one of later shots there is a man behind Lynn (the man they kept showing) This is her husbanad Phil-Lynn was a judge at OSSAS in 2005 one of her very good friends.
The evening before she passed away I saw her and she was definately in her elemnt. Colette peters, Nick Lodge, Kerry Vincent and others were all at the competition.
She was great because I could always email her and she would email me back with an answer. I still have her in address book and cannot bring myself to delete her.
