I have seen a lot of recipes for lava cakes but can anyone tell me if they will work the same way if you bake them in cupcake paper cups? Thanks
AProbably if baked correctly-- but a ramekin and a spoon is how you would serve an individually portioned lava cake --
cupcakes are hit and run finger food while a lava cupcake would be too messy and would spill all over
AWait no a ramekin is how you would bake it -- you turn it out onto a dessert plate to serve so all the 'lava flows' out
Aok -- it's early I'll spit this out yet -- the reason it won't work is because you need all that crust in place to encase the lava -- it would be hard to unwrap it successfully --
I have also used the small canning jars set into a water bath to bake -- you want to turn them out to serve them ;)

I agree, a crust is necessary to hold the lava inside the cake, but the paper liner works in place of the crust. I sold lava cakes at my shop. They were baked in paper liners and the salesclerks had to tell customers to handle them carefully, eat with a fork, and not peel the liner until they were ready to eat.
Thanks to all of you for your input. I figured it wouldn't work but thought I would ask anyway. Going to experiment and see what I come up with.
It depends on how you want to serve the ie hot or cold. I have had good results in filling a cupcake with chocolate ganache and microwaving before eating, comes out all molten and runny like a lava cake.
