Hey fellow cake bakers,

For those that don't already know, I just wanted to let you know that you can go to aliexpress online to purchase those same exact silicon onlays and molds that Marvelous Molds is selling for $13 less with free shipping. You can also search for more cake items and have it shipped free and it only takes a week to get your items. So don't get swindled like me and pay $29 instead of $13 for the same thing. I will be returning mine and re-purchasing from the actual source for these "new" cake design tools. Saving me over $50 for the onlays. Amazon also has some stencils I'm sure those that create cake purses would appreciate having in their tool kit.

Here's to more beautiful cake designing and have a great day!

I just found them for $5-$7 dollars even. Cost much less for them all under $75.

Hello, This is Chef Dominic from Marvelous Molds. I just want you to know that I am familiar with these counterfeit products and you may be interested to know:

They do not work very well, seems the manufacturers from foreign lands do not understand the concept behind my invention or even the principles of basic cake decoration.

They have stolen my product designs, my pictures, my website content and are even using my own image on their packaging.

They are violating my copyrights and my patent pending protections.

They are misleading our customers and diverting sales from Marvelous Molds which is a fine American company employing exceptionally talented craftspeople all of which are red blooded Americans with families.

I cannot adequately express how the actions of these counterfeiters has affected me on a deep and personal level. It feels like I have been violated.....like someone has stolen my children. And when I ask them to stop, they laugh, dismiss me as just another stupid American who is thankfully creative enough to invent a product they can knock off. Their position is this, as long as they can offer a lower price they know that many people around the world will simply take advantage of it.

Before you buy these counterfeit products, take a moment and imagine how you would feel or have felt when another cake artist steals pictures of your cakes and claims them as their own. Actually, to be truly accurate, imagine another cake decorator not only stealing your photos but also sneaking into your kitchen, stealing your finished cakes and selling them for half the price. If you can imagine that happening to you then you will begin to understand how this situation feels to me.

In closing, I would like to wish you well in the decision you make. I will always hold your talent as a cake decorator in high regard and I hope you never have to experience such a violation in your personal life and professional career.

All the Best,

Chef Dominic

Founder/Marvelous Molds

Dominic, I would just like to say that I had the pleasure of watching you at your stand at Cake International in Birmingham last year. Your products are fabulous and I bought an Onlay at the show after you demonstrated them - I had watched your videos before that but still wasn't convinced the Onlays would be quite so user friendly! I bought another couple since then and have used them a few times on my cakes, they are really great.

I admit I have stupidly bought a couple of "fake" silicone molds on the cheap, not based on anything of yours mind you. The copies just do not work. The quality of the silicone is terrible and everything sticks to them. I imagine that those who have copied your designs are putting out bad quality stuff too, and cheap usually turns out expensive in the long run.

Your original products are worth every penny.

I did look up reviews for that aliexpress place, I would stay away from it. It has tons of reviews saying that they never received their product. They are just a bogus counterfeit company in China that mainly sells counterfeit goods wholesale as well. Their definition of "food safe" is much different from ours (and laxer too).

It's always better to buy the real thing :D

Thanks for the info. Actually molds are made in China and come from there as well. Do not be misinformed, the US has sold out to China on almost everything with the exclusion of items made in India, Malaysia, etc. Unless the item is stamped with Made in America or the website clearly states where they are processed/made and the distribution center, it's NOT and can't be placed on the website as such. I've gotten ALL of my molds and they are Exactly the Same as the US companies (that gets them from China wholesale), imagine that o_O So buying the "real thing" isn't even relevant. But I will say that a person should always buy where they do feel "safe" ;-D

I have purchased many things from Aliexpress and have always received my order within the promised time-frame. And since Aliexpress does not release your payment to the seller until the you, the customer,  have received and approved your shipment , you can feel quite sure that the seller wants to make you happy. I  am, in other words, a big fan of that site.

However, you really do get what you pay for. One of my cake-tools that I bought last christmas broke in two the other day, no big deal since it cost next to nothing and the others seem fine, but they are not the same quality of my other tools (fat daddios). I will continue to buy things like rolling pins, cupcake wrappers etc there but I would not buy an onlay there, for those types of things I think its probably wiser to spend the extra money.

I do and have bought many things off that site plus ebay and have had no problems with anything at all. There is a buyer protection plan in place which is good but I've been buying there for 3 yrs and no problems like I said before. I guess I have just been lucky with mine that nothing has ever broken or been really bad quality in terms of cake items. The pattern rolling pins are nice though. But as always buyers beware.

AI have an Etsy shop, and every time I get orders from certain countries that are known for counterfeiting I debate whether to fill the order. There are companies including Alibaba etc that are known for stealing designs and ripping off other people's work.

Just be aware that if you buy copies of this type of silicone product, the silicone isn't going to be as good a quality and you're basically supporting a business that steals other people's work. I see this a lot from jewelry designers who have their original designs stolen and mass-produced at a much lower quality. They even take the photos of the originals and use them in their advertising, and because they're not in the US it's really difficult to fight them.

I'd rather pay the extra $13 and get a product that's made well and actually works, in addition to supporting the person who did the work to design it and bring it to market.

The counterfeits are made with a cheaper type of silicone, so that doesn't surprise me. I'm sorry that you wasted your money!

I bought a Marvelous Mold Onlay and I love it!  I know it cost more than the fake ones.  But I made a decision a long time ago to not support companies that steal from all of us.  There will always be knock off purses, shoes, etc.

I want customers to value me and my products.  If we all realize that people like Dominic drive our industry with their imagination and heart only to have companies steal it.

I will buy more of the REAL products to support people that dream up ideas to make my cakes awesome!  Thank you Dominic and all of the people that have original ideas.  Please do not support the people that think you are not very smart.   Don't prove them right!

AI have also purchased marvelous molds... In which I LOVE.... Dominic thank you for my mold addiction and helping me create wonderful cakes. Easy to use, once you practice... Can't wait to buy the newest designs... I have purchased on aliexpress and never had a problem with anything I have bought. They send your purchase and then release payment to the supplier. I bought designer rolling pins and one was missing, they quickly sent me 2, I received them in a week, no charge... Great customer service.. I buy from them all the time, no problems...

Hello Chef Dominic, and thank you for your molds.  Buying quality products from my home country is something I choose to do. I put my money and my support towards my fellow Americans when possible.  Thanks for your molds.  Here is my cake using your large crown mold.

Thank you Dominic for posting your response to this. I knew when the thread started that the others mentioned were fakes. I'm personally annoyed with "hand made sellers" from China posting on Etsy. It's suppose to be for small artists, not rip off artists that use substandard materials. Remember folks, China is known for "saying" that molds are made from a "FDA safe silicone" or other food safe or even child safe materials, and then the truth comes out.

Support US made products and always support the original company that has a patent or copyright on something! :-)

Cupcake Cali, Thank you, I have been holding my tongue.

I hate, when I see companies, I like, have ads on their websites for A---ess.   IMO, it sure makes them look acceptable, when they should be banned.

My molds came from either Dominic's site or Global Sugar Art.  I only buy from US companies and I agree that Etsy is the wild west.  Buyer Beware.  I have been to "factories" in China and they make copies of everything and sell it to customers that don't understand or care how it hurts our entrepreneurs and our country .  Quote-Oh I have had no problems buying knock off cake tools.  Hello!!!

I guess some people think the China sites are selling real, legit products.  What they are selling is an unauthorized, illegal, copy product at a fraction of what they really cost.  You know, like a 36 piece set of tools for $5.  Being a legitimate business is extremely expensive these days.  Do what you can to protect our artist.

I will get off of my soapbox now!!!  Thanks for listening!

Farenheit, I am glad you like the Marvelous Molds Onlay - Damask is my favorite, too!

Next, I am going to buy the scrolls by Dominick of Marvelous Molds.  I love innovative people that make my cakes look so good!

If I don't support my favorite companies, it will be my fault when they go away.

Sending money to knock off companies is bad business for all of us!
