Hi everyone!
The Daniel Tiger party was great this weekend. We had a minor hitch when Costco lost our pizza order. We ran to Little Caesar's and picked up some $5 pizzas and crazy bread and that worked out just fine. Here is the cake:
The cake is "paneled" with fondant and the ride down sort of buckled it a bit but it was still impressive to the guests so I guess that's me being too hard on myself again. LOL! Here is the inside:
The inside was "tiger striped" too. It was a 10x5 on the bottom and a 6x3 on top. only part of the center ring was left over after the party because people came back for seconds...always a good sign!
This week I have a Halloween themed graduation cake. I know, I know, weird concept! LOL! But the woman it's for is getting her doctorate and has a thing about Halloween and skulls. I'll share when I can next week!

Amazing cake, Cat. I haven't tried tiger stripes inside a cake yet. One of these days I will.
Gerle, it's actually very easy. Just make up the two colors of batter and then (I used a big spoon) ladle in a scoop of one color and then top with a scoop of the next color and just keep alternating until the pan is 2/3 full. It makes the stripes by itself! I did white cake with devil's food for my grandaughters zebra striped cake and then tinted the batter with orange to make tiger stripes but I bet you could do this with any lighter and darker colored batters.
Thanks for the info. I've seen several done but just haven't taken the time to check into it. I do like the looks of it, though. I've especially thought of it for my niece who likes marble cakes. Thought this would be a cool way to "marble" her cake with yellow and chocolate.
Kinda slow tonight. I bet everyone is busy getting ready for Easter Sunday. I got a lemon cake baked and frosted today...nothing special, just frosted and not decorated. Also am trying my first semifredo. It looked good and I thought I'd try something different. It's a strawberry and pistachio semifredo. Hope it turns out ok. It's currently in the freezer. Hubby wants to take it out tomorrow and try a small sliver of it to make sure it's ok for Easter!
Hope you have a wonderful Easter! Ours is going to be small, just us and our two boys with their wife/girlfriend. And our dogs, of course!
It's going to be a very quiet Easter for us. We saw our family last weekend and going to see even more next weekend so it's just the three of us. We'll have a nice dinner and dye eggs in the morning but very quiet day for us.
As for here, I figured I'd give it a shot tonight in case anyone had something special for the weekend they wanted to share. I've been running Easter ideas all month on Facebook (on our business site there) so I sorta feel like it's been Easter for weeks! LOL!

ACool cake Cat! Nothing special from me, but a cute practice one this week. I uploaded it to my pics yesterday. I had a cake baked and in the freezer ready for a client, but then my husband left the freezer door open after getting the chips out, and it defrosted so I couldn't sell that. I used it for practice instead. I had a go at peter rabbit (what are the copyright laws on that one? There are a million on Google!) it doesn't look much like peter rabbit, just a generic rabbit with a blue coat... But loads of fun doing the dinky veg etc My point of practicing is trying to get a flawless fondant finish, edges, bottom etc I was really pleased with this one, not that you can see it as I've covered it with the fence! I've only been doing it 10months so lots to learn still :) Anyway, here it is
That's a cute cake, Ana. You did a great job. I've been trying to practice with fondant, too, to get it really smooth and clean. Haven't had much time lately, but I need to get back to it. Thanks for sharing your cake...I think it's really cute.

ABoth cakes are really cute. I work at school and we are the tigers, so I may try the stripes sometime. I tried for stripes once but used a 14x11 and really just got a swirl rather than stripes. I will have to try it in a round pan. And I like the details on the other cake but yet it still looks clean.
I made dinner and a bunch of cookies for a friend who had surgery...I told her that I brought her flowers. She has a real sweet tooth. Hope you all have have a good weekend!

Ana...your Peter Rabbit cake is truly adorable. We are HUGE PR fans here, Potter fans in general but most definitely PR is our favorite! As for copyright...you can use it whenever you want as long as you don't make money off of it. This sort of cake would be great as a demo to show what you can do as well as great for a family cake or donated cake for charity. You still get to play but since you are not making money from it then you don't break the copyright law. I save these types of cakes for family. Other wise you do the whole cake and then use a bought figurine for the character. LOVE your fenceline. Perfect!
Texas...what a sweet way (yes, pun intended) to give a dozen flowers! I've never done the striped technique in a rectangle pan but have done it in a ball pan and a bowl shaped pan and it turns out really great in those. Guests were thrilled with the tie in to the theme.
Hope everyone has a great Easter!

Veronica! I love your ruffles. What is your secret to getting them to look so bouncy? They look almost like carnation petals!
Thanx!

Thank you so much Gerle & catlharper.
I roll the fondant really thin and just cut out circles. I ruffle the edges with the little round ball tool. The key is rolling the fondant as thing as you can.
AHi, I'm new to the group I just started making cakes a few months ago out of the blue. I've been making them for friends just to practice. I would love to take classes one day. I really enjoy seeing everyone's cakes. These are a few I did this week.[IMG][/IMG]
That's a cute Easter cake. You do a good job for only doing it a few months. You must have a natural talent for decorating cakes.
AThank you! That was maybe my 6th fondant cake to ever make. I'm having so much fun learning.
ANice cakes everyone! Here's one I did for a baby shower this weekend...haven't had a chance to edit the website photos so I just have the cell phone pic
AHappy Easter everyone! It's been a quiet enough week for me, nothing showstopping just some cupcakes and chocolate biscuit cake that I threw some buttercream roses on in a rush yesterday morning before heading out the door to go to the in laws for dinner!
