AI would use either a rose petal cutter or a round cutter (elongate one end to make it look more like a petal shape). Cut out of a piece of fondant and use a ball tool to thin out/ruffle the rounded edge of the petal. Let it dry a little so it holds its shape and then apply.
AMaybe 1/2 and 1/2. Fondant alone may be too soft since the petals are laying flat and not "hanging' on the side of the cake. I am not an expert though
AO agree . I would frill the edge with a cocktail stick on a hard surface then put the petal on a pad and use a ball tool on the centre to cup the petal. Roll the paste to about 1mm. When you lay then on the cake in rows overlap slightly. You may have to increase the size of the cutter as you go. I would start ot the hem of the dress with larger petals and get smaller as you go. It is a great looking cake.

Thank you
ACocktail stick is easy yes. Put the petal on a firm surface dust it and the petal with cornstarch choose a cocktail stick that is well rounded (some of the cheaper type can have miss shapes) place the stick on the petal and roll it away from you applying a little pressure and it will thin and frill the edge of the petal. Thinking about it I think there is a utube demo I will take a look for it and try to post a link
ATake a look here
You to, I have been working on a few projects with gum paste and fondant, need all the help I can get. This information will help me out a lot because those tools with the balls on the end are not really cutting it for me. Thanks for posting it.
AI'm am working all hours towards a competition in three weeks. I have been making sweet peas all day. My OH has just gone to bed so I am about to make some lemon shortbread for valentine as a surprise for him in the morning.

I saw your teapot, looking good so far. Good luck with the competition! Your OH will probably wake up when he smells that baking !
