Help and advise needed on what medium to use

Hi all you lovely cakers!  I need some help and advise on a project that I am wanting to do for mid March. I have to make some small ladies (approx. 3 1/2" in height) that will have the effect of looking like they are made from white/ivory marble - which medium would be better for this?  

 

a)   White modelling chocolate? what should I add to make the chocolate more of a white colour without making it too soft to work with, will it set hard enough to retain it's form? should I use covered flower wire as an armature? 

 

or 

 

b)  Flower/Gumpaste or would this be a better medium? 

 

They are to be used for decoration purposes only and not for consumption,  any help/advise that you can give would be much appreciated.  TIA:smile:

I'd probably use modeling chocolate. If you start with the Super White melts, it'll come out whiter.  Otherwise, tint your corn syrup with white color then add to the melted chocolate.  To keep it from being too yellowish, don't use couveture chocolate, use the candy melts.

If they're were going to be eaten I'd have gone for Modelling choc mixed with a little fondant, if you decide they might be eaten after all you can pale the highlights with white petal dust mixed with vodka, start subtle and finish with pure white highlights; that will allow you to see the features of the figures since monotone people often lose recognisable definition.

Since nobody is going to eat them though I would suggest you use GP, its sometimes easier to gradually add thin washes of shade than to highlight like above, plus the dark veins of marble will show up better.

Thank you BeckyRink and Crazy-Gray for your help.  Crazy-Gray, I would feel happier using GP as I havn't had much experience with modelling chocolate - BTW love your work - have quite a few of your pics in my favs! :D

Really?! Aw shucks icon_smile.gif ...now I'm all speechless!

Maybe get yourself a can of 'edible glaze spray', I usually get it from ebay, give them a few coats and they'll look like polished marble- don't make your first coats too thick though or it'll make the colour run! eek!
