Hi everyone!
I only have one cake this week. The client heard about me from someone else and has a CARS birthday party tomorrow. She wanted a "half sheet cake without all of that plastic stuff on top with Mater?". So we talked about price and I could see that my price wasn't an issue but she was worried about how it would look. I asked her if I could make the whole cake look like Mater but then her concern was how I was going to make it without using metal or plastic. Finally I assured her I could do the cake if we leave off the mirrors (which would need wires) and she was happy with that. I used whipped ganache which was a real challenge when a cold snap hit us here. It kept wanting to harden up! Anyways, I was able to do it in a couple of hours so I didn't blow her budget and I think her 5 year old will like it. I also made a little mini Mater for his own piece.
Here it is:
Other than that I've been working on editing the photos from our LA trip and making home made crafts for our family for Christmas. How's it been going for you all?

Cat, I think your cake is cute and adorable!! I love it especially the little one!!! Awesome!!!
Thank you guys! I would have loved to have done a more detailed version with fondant but her budget didn't allow that. As it was I did more than I normally would for the budget but I can never help myself. LOL!

Good Evening all, been awhile since I've posted to the group. I've been super busy with things outside of the cake world and had my mother in the hospital about a month ago. Now that things are fairly back to normal, trying to get back on track if that's possible with the holidays here.
I will post a couple of the cakes I've made and not posted but not too many because I don't want to bombard the site, lol.
This was last weeks. Made this cake with the stand in mind. Purchased it from Batter Up who is a member here and several members as well as a few other celebrity cake artist have been using them. So glad I bought mine early before she is too famous to get one. rofl...
Then I also had this Mario Brothers cake I made for the son of a friend.
And the last I'll post is this Dodgers Cake.
Working on a cannoli cake for a party my mom is having. Every Christmas they host my dad's holiday party and my loves to showcase my cakes . It's all of their friends that go way back from when he was young, he's been a doc at the same hospital for close to 30 years.
It's my first time making cannoli cake, I'm not used to working with "squishy" cake fillings. Next time I'm straining the ricotta in cheesecloth first so it is thicker. I hope it tastes okay. It's going to be decorated with whipped cream frosting and holly leaves/berries made from gum paste. This year it's smaller than last year's cake (8X4 inches) , as I didn't have much time.
I will post a picture when I'm done!
AMy son's 4th birthday tomorrow (8th) - where has the time gone?? Anyway, he wanted Disney Planes: I don't know why I set myself for structural work! Totally not my forte. Thank goodness my husband is an aerospace engineer so he helped me getting the wings in at the right angle! Had to go with card and a couple of wooden skewers, against my want to do everything edible, as I didn't see how else I was going to get the iced wings (heavy) to stay up! Glad it's over - caked out now!
anaelisabethlee, you cake is simply so cute and well done. Love it.
Cat I love...... the mater. Wish I could get an order for one myself. nice job.
I love the plane cake! Structures frighten me....
I had a Secret Santa gift exchange this week at work, and the co-worker's name that I pulled wanted edibles or consumables - totally up my alley! I made a 4 inch mini cake with sugar cookies; I haven't done sugar cookies in ten years and it was really fun!

Norasmom...what the heck is a canoli cake?
Ana...your cake is my absolute favorite this week! LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
Lovemykids...I want to be on YOUR gift list! That's just a gorgeous mini cake and the cookies...oh my!
Everyone have a great week!
auntginn- can I ask what you used to get the gold edging on your flowers on the wedding cake? I have a golden anniversary cake coming up and am trying to figure out the best medium to use to get touches of gold on the cake.
AIt's my first post in the Friday Night Club and I am late! I've been cookie busy lately, and here are the ones that I worked on this week:

And with leftover icing:
The baby bassinet was a SweetAmbs design. She is the bomb.com.
I have a ton of cookie requests this month!
Lovemykids, its just gold luster. Same as with the lines in the pleats. I took the thinist brush I had, dipped into Vodka and then into the dust. I use a pallete plate so as not to get to much on the brush, I use one well for dry dust and another to create a paste. That way I get it nice and dark right away. And I always let my flowers dry solid before dusting them.
SPCOhio, I just love your cookies. I avoid doing them but love to see all the detail work others take time to do.
AThank you, Auntginn! I just started doing cookies this year so I am still learning so much. I've done cakes very intermittently for a few years, so I still have so much work ahead of me to perfect those skills. Your flowers are lovely!
