Fading fondant color!

I was experimenting with making butterfly fondant figures, the color was pink with purple dots on the wings.  I left them out to dry overnight and when I checked them in the morning, the side that was facing up was significantly lighter than the back side.  The color on top continued to fade!  I used both Satin Ice fondant and the marshmallow fondant, both faded the same way.

 

How do you prevent this kind of fading?

pink fades--keep it out of light and americolors are stronger--don't know what kind kind you used--

 

and for icing fading--using milk helps to prevent that but in fondant i think you just need to use a good grade coloring and keep it out of light--

 

pink does fade though and purple fades to blue because...the pink dissipates--

Thank you for the response!  We use Americolor, so I need to keep pink out of the light. 

 

Campbell is great, we are right near the train station.  We also sell our cookies at the Campbell Farmers Market, it is a fun market :-)

with the pink--since you know now--you might want to be prepared to reinforce the pink coloring with some pink dusts so you don't have to be concerned with the possibility of fading--the pink dusts will remain on for you--you can dust them and stop right there or then hold in steam for a few literal seconds and it sets the dust--either way works great and this does not fade--

 

i know they habit the farmer's markets in the area--i'm sure they've been to that one--how cool! are you the only cookie seller there at that f market?

Thanks again!  That sounds like a great idea.

 

We are the main cookie baker there, and have been there the longest.  Our company name is Edna's.  We are next to the sauerkraut booth.  We have a lovely gal who does that market.  Tell your family to say hi :-)
