I am making a 4 tiered wedding cake for November 23. I use SPS on large cakes, but this one will be 10", 9", 8" 7" - all 4 inch high tiers. (Why those sizes? It is going to be a very sleek art deco design.)

What is your opinion on using SPS in this instance? Waste of money or a must?

I always use it on really heavy cakes - I have one cake in my avatars that is a 3 tier square cake. The middle tier was a 10" cake that was 6" high. It weighed about 50 pounds and was going on a shorter 4 inch tier. The SPS was great for that and I wasn't worried at all!!

Thanks for your opinions!

AI don't use the sps but I've only heard great things about its durability. I wouldn't worry about it at all. It seems like a secure way to stack a cake!

I have a personal rule of not transporting more than two tiered stacked...so maybe you wouldn't Stack all 4 tiers. Unless you feel comfortable

I say go with the SPs since you're familiar with it

Those SPS systems are junk. I use the cake stackers system. Its aluminum, reuseable and I don't have to worry anymore when I transport cakes.

i think sps is a great system--very secure and economical--the problem i encountered with re-useable doweling is that sometimes it's not all returned--there'e pros and cons to everything--i did not like the hassle of getting it returned myself--

i would dowel this cake and deliver it stacked--but i think whatever you're most comfortable with is best for you-

I think the same thing K8! I don't like the hassle of getting things returned because I'm always the one driving all around God's green earth trying to get them. The SPS system is cheap. I don't care if I get it back.

Glad to know you think it will be fine stacked and doweled. I didn't feel like ordering SPS for this one. Haha!

I will look into this aluminum system. It is good to know other options are out there.

AI have to disagree that sps is junk. It does its job and its inexpensive. Its such a hassle using things that aren't disposable and you have to try and get back

if you have to order it its probably not worth it. Dowels are just as good

AThanks [@]morganchampagne[/@].

I don't keep a lot of stuff like that on hand since I'm home based. I don't make a ton of wedding cakes. About 10 a year and the rest are birthday and other celebrations. The most I stack on a regular basis are 2 tiers. :)
