A I will be making this cake this coming week for a wedding. Any info from all of you great cake masters would be appreciated! I'm pretty sure this is buttercream and not fondant, correct? What tip do you believe was used? She is wanting a pound cake with cream cheese buttercream. This cake will be outside.. Any suggestions for recipes? It will probably be in the mid 70s and hopefully not raining! : ) Also, this will be my first ombré cake so any suggestions on doing this will be great as well!! Thank you in advance!!

AI think your right!! I am looking at some over the other cakes this bakery has made with the same ruffles and they are darker in color which is more clear to see. I really don't want to use fondant... Is it possible to get this look with buttercream?

AButtercream ruffles are done with a petal tip, there are tons of tutorials online. I don't know if it will look exactly the same though.

I honestly think it's buttercream. I found a tutorial on how to do that look without fondant. I'll see if I can find it!

I thought at first it was buttercream, but after looking at it about 5 times, it's fondant. You can sort of get this look with petal tips. Check YouTube for tutorials.

AI think it's fondant too, the pictures a bit blurry for me. For an outside cake I would insist on fondant. You can do it in BC but it will look slightly different. With the heat I'd worry about the BC ruffles drooping.
