Hi folks!

This is actually my first thread on the forum so if this question isn't really in the right place, please forgive me!

I'm doing a boob and corset cake for a birthday request with the corset in red and black. However, I'm really not sure what to do on the board. I had considered red (being a slightly different shade to the corset) and black fondant striping, but I'm not sure whether this would be overkill.

What does everyone think? The board is plain silver, but I'm not sure it would look appropriately finished if left plain.

Maybe find a black lace or black damask scrapbook paper and seal it with clear contact paper.  I typically use cake drums and cover them with white contact paper and finish off the drum with a coordinating ribbon around the sides. 

Whatever you do DO NOT leave it plain silver...I loathe when decorators leave a beautiful cake on a generic board.  Takes away from the design.

Hi Recluso, I think SugarMama's suggestion is perfect - black lace or damask pattern on the board would really enhance the burlesque theme and set the cake off beautifully.  I normally cover boards in fondant then add a pattern eg. polka dots, as needs be. Or use a cutter to make shapes to add a pattern on the board.  But covering the board in paper plus contact sheet I never actually thought of! Thanks guys!

Haha...of course it's going to a guy...my brain was stuck on thinking of something girly. Duh.

Maybe black and white checkered pattern.
