Hi wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue- I am making a cake in a deep 9` fat daddios pan. using 2boxes of French Vanilla. i substituted oil for applesauce in the Duncan Hines cake but it did not cook in the middle and was so heavy and dense?Any suggestions as to what went wrong.

Was it a 3" pan?  Those are very difficult to get to bake in the middle.  Did you use an inverted flower nail as heating core? Those work wonders!

yes it was the 3`i will try the flower nails, thx. wasntsure if it was due to using applesauce instead of oil because it came out so heavy and dense.

I sold my 3" pans on Ebay.  Once I used 2" pans I was so happy.

Hello, I am a first time baker. I am making a birthday cake for my 15 and 17 year (their birthday is tomorrow. How many eggs do I need for a half sheet cake. I bought 3boxes of cake mix already.

Substituting applesauce for all of the oil will do it, too. I suggest substituting no more than 50% of the oil.

What do the flower nails do? I've not heard of this!

The metal flower nails distribute the heat.  Works like a charm!
